Its a wrap!

It has come to an end, and I must admit I actually learnt quite a bit. I am glad I chose to participate in the training. I think that I will still be using my blog although the training has finished. In saying that, I am kind of glad it is over because you really do end up spending so much work/own time on this training. Now I get to just go on it when I have time and when I please. It is a great way to express yourself and see what other people are doing out there. There are so many different and interesting blogs! I would like to say a HUGE thankyou to the City of Swan! Great work!!!

Events @ your library

I work at both City of Gosnells and City of South Perth Libraries. I am currently doing events at South Perth and apparently they have never done anything for NAIDOC week. I am stuck for ideas. Just wondering if anyone has any great ideas or what their library is doing :)

Thanks!!

Never heard off.........Geocaching

I was like what is Geocaching. I checked out the website and seen that there were a few locations near where I live. But it took me a while to figure out why people trust these other people potting the course and how would you know it the "treasure" has already been collected. But then I had talked to "Gentle Giant" who I work with and he explained that his parents often do Geocaching. They had travelled around Australia and frequently looked on the internet for locations near to where they were travelling. They really quite enjoy it. I think that I am going to have to really research it to answer all my questions, but I am glad I now know what it is, you really do learn something new everyday! Personally I dont have time to go out and about, but maybe one day I will try it out!

P-P-P-Podcasting

Well to be honest, I was one of the people that thought Podcasting was for ipods, now I know the truth! I checked out some of the libraries podcasts that were suggested to us on the library podcast wiki page.
Some of them were quiet interesting but some were different. So I decided to go to 92.9 radio website and listen to some of the podcasts. Hamish and Andy are legends to me!! The way that they sing during the shows and the lyrics they come up with are great to listen too. I am sure going to miss them now that they are not on air anymore.
Podcasts can be very helpful for people studying and missed out on something during a lecture. It is also a great way to get libraries out there and really show what they are about and whats being offered at local libraries. I have now subscribed to some of 92.9's different podcasts they have for the different shows.

Backin up video

I work with the interesting guy who my sister and I call "Gummi Bear" who sent me a link the a youtube video and I have been lovin it ever since. I think this video is so addictive and this particular video has had over 8 million hits!! and the song is now of itunes. On Aussie Day, we had the itunes version of the song playing in the background as the fireworks we going off in the city. There are so many creations that the same guy has made. And then because this video has so many hits, there are a "band" called walk off the earth who then remake the videos and this happened to be one of them, althought I dont think it is as good as the original :)

Online videos are can be very entertaining, like sometimes when my mates and I are bored and looking for something to do, we surf youtube for fun and wacky videos.
I also think the "in plain english" videos are great!

So take a look at the this video, hope you enjoy it!

FB and tweeting!

Facebook is my life (well certainly takes up alot of it), I am always on it when I am at home and when I am out on my mobile (I normally check it about twice every hour minimum), so I couldnt wait for the week were we did FB :) I have many pictures and always chatting to people to posting on my friends pages. It is a great way to communicate between me and my friends. We often use it to send out party invations and it keeps everyone informed in whats happening and latest updates. In some ways I think that it is a lot easier to communicate and you get to have the best convosations, you can just talk for hours. Some of my status's have gotten over 100 posts just from convo's that random friends have on them. It's also great for advertising in regards to youth, as they are on it most of the time. Like about upcoming events in the local city.

Twitter on the other hand, I said I would never sign up for it, although I did for this course. I think it is going to take me some getting used to but I am sure if I spend half as much time as I do on FB, I will pick it up in no time. I get confused at the #tags bit but following people is easy enough. I have put on a pretty background on and now have 7 followers lol. I just have to try and tweet some more! Personally I dont really see the point of Twitter, but maybe I am just scared because I am unfamiliar with it.
